Once the trail runners have completed their races and caught their breath, it’s time for the Buffalo Soldiers to take center stage! Briefing for the Buffalo Soldier Challenge will start at 12:00 sharp on race day.

Launched at Tangila Trail Series 2022, the Buffalo Soldier Challenge is a non-technical 11 km bicycle race for local farm staff who ride single-speed bicycles - commonly referred to as “Buffalo” bikes. It’s a great way for a wider spectrum of the Mkushi farming community to get involved and to experience the unique mix of camaraderie and competition that defines Tangila Trail Series.

We are delighted that Buffalo Bicycles, a subsidiary of World Bicycle Relief, has come on board again this year to support the 2024 Buffalo Soldier Challenge. Buffalo Bicycles will generously provide a t-shirt and cap to each participant as well as bicycles to the 4 individuals comprising the winning farm team.

In order to ensure all Buffalo Soldiers can compete safely, the number of overall participants will be limited.
