TWATOTELA

Our connection with nature shapes how we value and treat the environment. This is why Tangila Trail Series supports initiatives that expose young people to conservation education. We are proud to be distributing profits from this year’s event to the following three beneficiaries.

Conservation Education Programme

North Swaka Trust (NST) is a non-profit organization that aims to restore and protect the natural biodiversity of the North Swaka and Mkushi Headwaters Forest Reserves to better the ecosystem and livelihoods of the local communities in the area.

Tangila Trail Series will be making a contribution towards NST’s newly launched Conservation Education Programme. This hands-on initiative aims to engage both students and teachers from 16 schools across the forest reserves buffer zone, instilling a basic understanding of the value of forests and the importance of conservation.

Scholarship Fund

Tangila Trail Series recognizes the importance of fostering a new generation of young Zambian professionals passionate about conservation. In partnership with Copperbelt University (CBU), Tangila Trail Series will provide financial assistance to several local students enrolled in their fourth and final year of studies in the BSc of Sustainable Natural Resources and Climate Change. Applicants for financial assistance will be interviewed and deserving candidates selected by Tangila Trail Series in collaboration with CBU.

Public School Tours

Masebe Ranch is always happy to host Tangila participants for one day each year. However, Masebe’s work in promoting local conservation is a year-long effort. When you leave, Masebe hosts groups of enthusiastic young school children from the Mkushi District. These students are given the opportunity to experience Masebe’s natural beauty, taken on guided wildlife tours, and enjoy picnics and swimming in the dams.

We enjoy hosting these groups because these visits serve a greater purpose: raising awareness and appreciation for our incredible natural heritage in Zambia, how easily it can be lost, and what we can all do to preserve it.

The funds raised from Tangila Trail Series will contribute the development of the Masebe Conservation Education Programme, which will allow us to welcome even more young visitors in the future.
